Just a comment......

I just listened to the video clip of Adrian Salbuchi that Levi posted in his most recent "Slog Blog".

Although all of that may be true and it really makes you think, I thought it was disgusting that he said the shooter would have to be like Rambo to set off two bombs and then two hours later go to the island and kill all those innocent people, when in fact he was "queer looking".

What does that have to do with anything? Homophobic?

In this day and age is it not about LOVING every one whatever their sexual orientation is? Is it not about good positive energy?

I'm not supporting that killer in any way, shape or form.

I was devastated just like everyone else.

I'm talking about what comes out of our mouths. How are we to be on a higher level speaking like that.

I think he said effeminate looking not queer.

You know Levi has friends in the special forces and they confirm there is no way he could carry out all the attacks by himself neither could Rambo for that matter because he is a fictional character but we get your gist.

Must admit though, he is a pretty looking boy...

Missed the point!

I'm well aware of the politically correct day and age and I'm also well aware of the Scottish/English/Irish sayings.....I think people responding have missed my point altogether.

I found it interesting about Adrian's point that it couldn't have been just a lone person doing all of that. It was his reference of Rambo (big tough guy) and him looking "queer" which he meant "gay looking", NOT " 'fast', wild, pretty, tolerable, large, great, good, considerable". Again, that to me had nothing to do with what happened to those poor people on that fateful day. I don't care if he is from the "old school" or a new one....... I was talking about trying to be on a more kind, positive and higher energy level in what comes out of our mouths.

We are all entitled to our own opinions...and by the way, I"m not a "young uns" or trying to be politically correct.

As old Levi said.. its all PC bullshit especially when they now openly promote and legalize "GAY" Marriages yet to use an old fashioned expression is Taboo.

You can also say someone looks a bit "Queer Looking". Nothing to do with Gay. It means "Strange Looking".

What world have I been born into when one cant express themselves before the PC Brigade start to harass innocent people?

The old mans right you know...

I remember having to do the Gay Gordons dance stuff in our PE classes in junior school (and PE stood for physical education in those days, heaven knows what other things it means these days).

This might not sound so good, but when I first saw the photo of the Norwegian gunman, I was struck by the clarity of the eyes....my first impression (probably a wrong one) was "is this man really an insensitive killer, or has he been driven by some deep-seated desperation for justice about something?" I just felt, for a moment, that there was a sane but desperate soul looking out from that skull.
That doesn't excuse what he did, of course....not suggesting that for a moment. But it was just a feeling.

It's a Gey world we're living in

WG: Well you're talking to the gal who not only knows her Scot's heritage, but also the language. It was known as the "Gay Gordon", I used to dance it, among other Scottish country dances at school in Scotland. The word "Gey" is an old Scottish word (I happen to have the Chambers Scottish Dictionary in my possesion), it means: 'fast', wild, pretty, tolerable,large, great, good, considerable.

In the Scots vernacular, one would use the expression as in: "it's a gey day", "she's a gey lassie", "he's no sae gey". You can add any other nome de plume you like.

The term "queer" is a very old word used in the English language to denote someone who is: strange, weird looking and/or even mentally unbalanced. It is not unlike the word "gay", which again was meant to denote: happiness, jocular, fun, etc.

Numerous old English words used in everyday language have been "highjacked" by the PC crowd and are now used by many groups to identify themselves, Who then turn around and criticize people who are not part of the group for using them.

Salbuchi is of the "old school", Argentina, so I am sure, even if he didn't use the term "queer", that if he had, he would have meant it in its original meaning: that the shooter looked weird, strange or mentally unstable.

Growing up in Scotland, the term "queer" was used to keep children away from strange looking people, or people your parents knew were up to no good. "Gay" is a word frequently found in English literature,poetry and prose, as well as Shakespeare, e.g., referring to someone happy, e.g., "gay and jocular company".

This argument is not unlike the word "black" for African-American. If a non-black uses it, they are villified, whereas if a "black African-American" uses the term it's acceptable.

Like the vast majority of people world-wide, I am SO VERY TIRED of multi-culti, and P.C.

I resent having to think about the words I learned in English classes, or Shakespeare, prior to using them.

You being of Scot origin.. Levi told me about some old dance or music called the "Gey Gordon" and an old saying "Have A Gey Day" but pronounced in English it is GAY.

We young uns are grateful you old uns who will not let us be distracted by the PC Politically Correct Crowd.

We are not having any of it and will speak our mind like my Grandparents did.

Tip of the Day - Don't look at a word and take it as face value.

Hi Kate,

I have seen this sort of behaviour before, in places that I have worked and socially. I don't think anything bad of you, I just think you are doing what your brain wants to do naturally. I see you have looked too literally at a sentence and thought Levi was personally attacking the killer for being queer. The top three meanings of the word queer are:

Queer =
1. Deviating from the expected or normal; strange: a queer situation.
2. Odd or unconventional, as in behavior; eccentric. See Synonyms at strange.
3. Of a questionable nature or character; suspicious.

Which fits in to the actions of the individual on that particular day and probably leading up to it.

Perhaps your approach to the subject could have been a little more tactful. Your accusation that Levi was using the word 'queer' in a homophobic way was a personal attack. Hence, You have just carried out in this blog what you are accusing Levi of doing. Pot calling Kettle, as they would say in Britain.

Look, sometimes people say things with the right intentions, but people occasionally interpret them in the wrong way. The fact that you have heard this from the video of Adrian Salbouchi, your actions are probably feeding into his hands.

Instead of posting your comments on this blog and causing unecessary hurt feelings, maybe you should have privately contacted Levi first.

I have served in the Armed Forces and have a lot of gay friends, and even they are educated enough to understand that the word queer does not mean gay.
