Hi all,

Remember those ATM shutdowns our US friends were complaining about recently? Well, something interesting just now about the shutdowns of ATMs across the use at 1 am on the 8th of November:

Still not fixed...

Hi Tik Tok and all,

Glitch or rogue, who knows?

Now they are saying it was human error.

It's now Monday evening, 9pm and still not fixed. This started last Wednesday!

I believe a lot of people have got some money, but a lot more are still without.

Of course on MSM, they show the idiots on the street saying 'oh, these things happen, I understand...'

Pathetic. Perfect Sheeple.

(Gladly it hasn't affected me.)

Saw that news. But they had better make up their minds, was it a 'glitch' or was it 'rogue'?

A glitch is generally understood to be an accidental or unpredicted failure, whether it's hardware or software. No human agency or intent is necessarily involved.

Yes, a file can be corrupted without human agency or intent. I've been dealing with some corrupt files over the last few days because I have a hard drive that's failing. But data processing operations on the scale that article is talking about use systems with enough redundancy in them that the failure of an individual drive or the corruption it causes can be fixed automatically. The system will route around the problem until the admin replaces the faulty hardware. So having a system brought down by a corrupt file has become a more freakish occurrence for systems like that but, you know, glitches happen.

But when they subsequently refer to the corrupted file as rogue, I think it implies something else -- that it's a file that doesn't belong and was placed there intentionally by someone to cause a problem. So which is it? A glitch? Or a rogue? If they only meant to suggest that the file was damaged, they should have described it that way.

Update on ATM Freeze

This situation has gone from bad to worse. The 'glitch' happened on Wednesday morning, it's now Saturday afternoon and still not fixed. People are hopping mad now! Oh, and now it's affected all major Australian Banks, not just NAB.

I read this morning, that people's bank deposits made on Wednesday, have just disappeared without a trace. Poof, gone, just like that.

Just imagine, you go to do some shopping at the supermarket, you get to the checkout and you can't pay for your trolley load. No petrol, nothing.

Makes you realise how dependent we are on technology and the banks.

Hello All,

Noticed today that NAB (National Australia Bank), one of the largest banks in Oz had a freeze on ATM's and withdrawals. Affected a lot of Centrelink customers (i.e., pensioners, poor buggers).

It was put down to a 'computer glitch' and that could be true.

Can't but help think however, that it was a test to see how people would react.

No reaction as far as I can tell from the sheeple.

All the more reason to have cash on hand.

I bet those people won't get any interest on their transactions. When you multipy millions of accounts for one day transactions, how much would the bank make on that? I'm a cynical old cow aren't I?

By the way, probably shouldn't mention it here, but I don't care. My comp and emails are being hacked. I could write 3 pages on what's going on but for the sake of brevity, I'll spare you the details.

Briefly, I am being monitored. All my emails were trawled through last night, together with a mysterious phone call from 'Windows Support Centre' who knew all my details.

Thanks! I knew about the Bank Holiday, but did not know they could take your gold as well. Pretty sneaky to get that Act passed!

If something does not change I believe it could happen. Would not be a bad idea to stock up on food items for sure! I am. If I am over planning then I will have a big party and serve it, before it spoils, to friends. :)

There's a lot more on that site about this sort of thing, by the way. Although I wouldn't call this a mainstream site, it's certainly managed to nail it right on the head.

It's also interesting to see that Sarah Palin is bagging the Fed for the damage they are doing. I wonder what hope she has to be the first female President, given the sort of support she patently isn't going to get from them....
