Banks systems down

by Lisa P.
(USA N. CA)

Today, I went to BofA (Northern CA) to cash two small checks. When I went in, there were hardly any people waiting in line, though there were two customers at the tellers. I noticed almost all the tellers were NEW, except for two of the older ones that have been there for years. My turn came up and I told the teller I just needed to cash the two small checks, and she said, "Oh, good, because our systems are down".

To make a long story short, I thought this was kinda strange since the power was not out, so I posted this on a forum I frequent, and a lot of people are responding that they are also having difficulty due to the banks "systems are down". they also mentioned Wells Fargo bank, too.

So I thought I would post here as well, and would like for folks to give me input if they are experiencing this, too.

If the rumors are true, better brace yourself.

Banks down
by: Eileen

Yes Lisa I can confirm that here in the SAC area my BofA was down when I went to deposit a large check last week. The bank is in a supermarket, and they had cordoned off the entrance to the tellers, like we were in DisneyWorld.

There was a young clerk, serving one customer. Again, and again, BofA keeps changing their tellers and yes they are getting younger and younger!! There were two "managers" outside the "cordon" asking customers if they were depositing checks, because the systems were down and they couldn't cash checks, only "deposit" checks.

I said, to one of the managers - that's strange, you can take my money, but not give it back to me..
-- is this shut down due to Bill Gross (Pimco Bond Fund) and all the hedge fund managers suing to get their bond fund losses back?

She gave me a strange look, like she didn't have a clue what I was talking about, but said I could deposit my check, but couldn't get any money out. Later, I walked down to RiteAid to buy some stuff, same thing with their computers, where RiteAid has a Reward system, if you buy stuff, you get a Rebate Reward coupon. They took all the stuff I bought, but then their computer wouldn't take the Rebate Reward coupons?

The gal said, just keep them and bring them back later, our computers are having problems.

I said; NOT!!! IT'S LIKE CASH, ENTER THEM MANUALLY.

So she had to call the Manager over, who did indeed enter them MANUALLY. The Clerk at the next counter, was also having problems with the Rebate Rewards. I said: "doesn't look like you're having a problem charging my credit card?"

I am absolutely neurotic about the banks right now, have moved a lot of money out of three different banks, but where does one invest it, everything is being pumped up by the PTB, they are all buying and selling to each other, screw the punters. We are doomed!!

Oh my God -- login word: B L O W U P!!!!

Coincidence?
by: Lloyd

Well, there's no such thing as coincidence in this world. If one bank's systems are down that's just bad luck. If another's are down at exactly the same time, that's likely not luck but a real correlation. If many are down, then it's a common occurrence.

Now that may not be all that strange. A lot of banks use third party providers for their front office systems, because they don't see it as their job to do IT. So if the third party provider's system is down, so will all the banks that use that system. But not all banks use the same third party provider. If ALL banks' systems were down at the same time, I think that means we have a coordinated occurrence.

Lloyd.
