Here we go again, soft-headed MPs whipping up support for meddling with Britain's clocks, trying to squeeze more daylight hours out of the ones that Nature gave us.

This row has been going on for some while, but for those who aren't aware of it, the ever-meddling UK government (in the form of Ms Rebecca Harris, MP for Castle Point) wants to consider returning to double Summer-time for the summer, and possibly going back only ONE hour from this, during the winter (instead of going to GMT in winter like we do now).

This effectively means lighter evenings but darker mornings. Much darker.

Opponents to the Daylight Saving Bill have dubbed it "Berlin Time", since the ruse is to get the UK in line with Europe's clocks.

Such a move also effectively puts more distance between us and America. What is it normally between London and New York; 5 hours difference? That would suddenly go to 7; making it a real hassle for UK and USA businesses to keep tabs on each other....unless everyone's whipped into working longer hours.

(Yes I know "work" isn't going to happen much during the coming times, but I need an example!).

Ms smart-ass Harris probably wasn't born when the UK conducted a similar experiment in 1968, which no doubt is why she thinks her "idea" would bring "great benefits" for the people. Silly cow. She needs to read the reason why the scheme was abandoned; which in the main was the dark mornings and increase in accidents.

Of course, the sheep are divided on it. Those in Scotland are understandably opposed to having their sunrise shifted to nearly mid-day. Many in the south of England are drooling over the dream of sitting out on their patios guzzling wine and crisps, and watching the sun set at 11pm. (that DOESN'T include me, though!).

We should be aware (as many of us "old hands" are) that governments are keen to confuse and upset the people, so what better way than to keep fiddling with the time? Making people get up when it's dark, to go to work and then make them go to bed when the sun is still shining? Eventually they won't know whether they're coming or going. The effects of such capers on our biological clocks are well-known.

Many will argue that it's better to have dark mornings. Others will argue for light mornings. Those in higher latitudes will not like any of it. The excuse is that "it will make trade with Europe easier" and "it will be better for tourism"......not a word about whether it "will be better for the people". Always about business, trade, money, politics.

And so we could find England on double summer time, with the Scots refusing to change, and setting up their own time-zone to suit their needs (can't say I could blame them, either). In all, a bloody big pile of manipulation. I hope the Bill going through parliament is defeated but I wouldnt hold my breath. Next year, true noon may not come till the afternoon teabreak.

Oh yes, and here's the final rub; apparently, we have been told by the EU that it is now "illegal" to return to GMT full-time. As Nigel Farage (UKIP) recently said (on a similar topic) "who the hell do you people think you are?".
