Deadly Harvest

(Yorkton, SK, Canada)

Dead Crops

Dead Crops

Dear Reader,

I hope that since you are reading this you are preparing. I cannot tell you for certain what is going to happen but, it is going to be interesting.

In the best case scenario there might be rationing of basic food stuffs in that you will only be able to purchase what you and your registered family can consume in one week.

This has happened in history time and again even to us Western societies that everyone complains are so decadent because it has not happened in the last 50 years. You will not be able to stock up, and if you prepare now then you can have supplemental calories on hand to help your family through the tough times.

During the First Depression there is many documented cases where workers were laid off and had to survive on government handouts to feed themselves and their families. When contracts were finally made and work resumed the workers could no longer do an actual days labour anymore because they were too weak.

An extra bag of rice, flour, sugar, dried green peas or lentils, box of salt and honey bought every week up until the time that they are needed will go a long way to helping yourself. These will store safely for years if kept dry so do not worry about them if you do not get to use them this winter.

Forget tinned stuffs unless it is basic soups or vegetables otherwise they cost too much for the food value that they give. A kilo or two of basic powdered soup bases is better and good too.

You can stretch your groceries by making soups instead of full course meals.

Simply basic stuff is what is important.

If you feel that you need chips or pop to keep you alive then you have never lived without and had to really survive. Good luck with that.

If this happens then you will have time now to prepare unless you already are, Good for you if that is the case.

If the government implements rationing then there is hope that maybe they will have enough organization to feed your whole country. The biggest thing is that they might actually acknowledge that there is a problem. Please do not bet your life or your families that big brother will take care of you.

Should the government decide not to ration when there is obvious short supply, and should they decide not to tell you what is going on, then imagine what it is like when a front line soldier who is asking for help on the radio is ignored by the officers and is left to explain his actions to the enemy who has surrounded his company and is intent on rendering him lifeless.

You will be expendable. If you have not picked up anything else on Levi's site then let it be that.
You are the third crewman on the Enterprise. The token minority in a horror film. Kenny.

I am hearing different things about harvests around the world. I can tell you that here in Canada it is no different. When only half of the crops got planted in springtime (due to wet weather) I was worried.

I am talking an area the size of Europe that did not get planted.

Now that it is harvest time I am even more worried. The crop yields of the grains that have come off are 2/3'ds of what is normal per acre. But since we only got half the crops planted that makes it 1/3 of a normal crop.

Now we have wet weather on the Prairies.

Normally this can be handled but it is so wet that many farmers cannot get out onto the fields. There is grain that was swathed for harvesting but is now sprouting on the field from the moisture.

This cannot be used for humans.

Not to mention the amount that is going to be wasted on ethanol.

One friend of mine never even got anything planted. Every one is hoping for next year. Not to be a party pooper but it takes months to grow a crop.

This is not sprouts which you can eat in a week. When the government not-so-strategic food reserves run out the only thing available will be what you put aside or each other.

I know that I can skip a day or two without food, but six months will be stretching it.

The way it works is that when our harvest comes in we export to other countries, and when they harvest it is sold back to us so that we always have fresh harvest available. This is how our world's population grew so fast.

Globalization.

But when everybody has a bad year it only takes a couple of countries to upset the apple cart. ie.
Russia banning wheat exports, our crops failing. It would be very interesting to get the real numbers out of the USA this year too.

The only option the PTB will have is to implement a global war. Not one that destroys everything, but one in which many cities and their excess non productive populations can be removed from the equation and any shortages can be blamed on somebody else and what they did to collapse the food chain.

If they can feed 1 million people for 3 months why not kill half and have enough till next harvest? or better yet kill 3/4 and everyone left can eat for a year. Kill 9/10 and you have 2 and a half years to rebuild. Blame the bad crops on HAARP from Russia or China. Blame the lack of fuel on the war.

I used to wonder why they were building micro sized ethanol plants in towns every hundred miles in my area until I found out that the method for cracking the canola oil is the same as for crude oil and that is found all though the region.

The rebuilding will be done small scale, with every little fiefdom having its own refinery and military outpost. This also explained why the local governments have spent so much money building hurricane proof and self contained community/emergency buildings on the Prairies. Our local storm that damaged Yorkton on July 1st may have been a test case for the effectiveness of the local control.

When Levi mentioned that he was thinking of leaving the UK I wanted to ask him to come and live here and help out as only someone like he can. But the more I see going on the less I think that he would even have anything to do with the insanity that might be coming here.

(I still would, I would even find him a place to live if he wanted, maybe even help him with other essentials should he feel it necessary, just not a girlfriend that is his own problem)

It all makes me think of an old movie that was banned here in Canada years ago. Deadly Harvest. This movie was based upon the idea that a new ice age was forming and many of the worlds crops failed in one year.

The government in the movie hid the facts from the people. There was no where near enough food saved to keep everyone alive. When global food production stopped then all deliveries stopped. The people in the cities raided the countryside for food, while the military controlled the cities.

Deadly force was common, as was criminal control of the food. Clint Walker, played a farmer who was only trying to protect his family. Most city folk have played Doom or paintball, but most Country folk have had to rely on their own skills to either put meat on the table or remove unwanted animals from their property at least once.

Now I understand that some of you will not like this, some of you will think me blowing smoke, some of you think that I am a redneck country boy truck driving survivalist and have no place in a new age site and should stick to reading Guns n Ammo (which I detest).

But I read what you say and find hope for mankind.
It takes all sorts to make the world go round.

You are necessary too.

I want to see 2012 for all of mankind, my own curiosity drives me crazy. If everything should fail we can rebuild a new place for our loved ones and future generations to live in. If not then we can all live throughout the tempest and have a new understanding of ourselves and be better able to teach those who come after so that they can live the best lives possible.

But to see what happens after, we must be prepared to live through it.

Love and light will not fill an empty pot.
Nor protect you when seconds count and the police are minutes away. Sometimes when the Universe is trying to tell you something for your own good it is saying you must do it yourself.

At the very least buy a $10 slingshot and a bag of marbles. Just do not use it on me.

STORING SEEDS
by: Eileen

BYRON, THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK ON STORING SEEDS. I UNFORTUNATELY DIDN'T KEEP THEM IN A COOL PLACE, UNLESS PUTTING THEM INTO PLASTIC BAGS AND STORING THEM IN MY GARAGE, WHICH IS COOL AND COLD OVER THE WINTER, BUT AS YOU KNOW IN CALIFORNIA, BLOODY HOT IN THE SUMMER. I USED THE BEAN SEEDS THAT I HAD DRIED OUT FROM LAST YEAR, THEY WENT GANGBUSTERS AFTER I PLANTED THEM, BUT BARELY ANY BEANS, SNAP PEAS ETC.

I TRIED IT AGAIN, AND THEY HAVE LITERALLY DONE NOTHING!! WE PLANTED A LOT OF CORN, AND WERE AMAZED AT HOW THEY GREW AND ALL THE CORN ON THE STALKS, BUT AGAIN, THE CORN WAS SMALL AND MUSHY WHEN WE COOKED IT (THREW IT AWAY)AND THEN WE GOT AN INFESTATION OF GREEN BEASTIES, SO WE PULLED IT ALL OUT.

OUR SQUASH, WHICH WE BOUGHT AS PLANTS FROM THE LOCAL NURSERY, HAS DONE NOTHING SINCE WE PLANTED IT IN MAY. JUST YESTERDAY FOR THE FIRST TIME I PLUCKED A SEMI LARGE SQUASH, THE ONLY ONE. FLOWERS EVERYWHERE, BUT NOTHING HAS GROWN FROM THEM. A JAPANESE EGGPLANT IS PRODUCING SO MUCH, I CAN'T EAT IT OR FREEZE IT FAST ENOUGH. MOST OF THE PLANTS WE BOUGHT HAVE DONE NOTHING.

MEANWHILE, THE SEEDS I DRIED OUT AND PLANTED ARE ASTONISHING. GREEN/RED/HOT PEPPERS, AND TOMATO SEEDS, PUMPKIN SEEDS, MELON ALL ARE DOING WELL, BUT VERY SLOWLY I MIGHT ADD. THE TOMATO SEEDS, WHICH I GROOMED FROM SIMPLY CUTTING A TOMATO PAST IT'S PRIME AND STICKING IN THE EARTH HAVE EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS. ALSO, WHEN I CUT TOMATOES AND THE SEEDS ARE LEFT ON THE CUTTING BOARD, I TAKE A PAPER TOWEL AND SOAK THEM ON THE PAPER. THEN I PUT THEM OUTSIDE TO DRY, THEN I PLANT THEM IN A POT, PUT SOME FERTILIZER, ETC. AND VIOLA, MORE TOMATO'S. I AM ALSO AN AVID FLOWER GARDENER, AND HAVE TAKEN TO CUTTING THE HEADS OF FLOWERS WHERE THE SEEDS RESIDE, DRYING THEM OUT AND PLANTING THEM AROUND THE GARDEN. ASTONISHING HOW NATURE HAS THE ANSWERS, AND WE KEEP IGNORING THEM. BY ACCIDENT (THERE ARE NONE), I FELL INTO A WEBSITE THAT TALKED ABOUT NOT KILLING GARDEN/VEGETABLE PESTS,EITHER WITH PESTICIDES OR OTHER REMEDIES.

NATURE HAS A REASON FOR EVERYTHING, WE ALL DEVOUR EACH OTHER. WHICH IS PROBABLY WHY MY GARDEN IS FULL OF PREYING MANTIS, BUTTERFLIES, BEES, LADYBIRDS, SNAILS (WHICH CAN BE CURED BY PUTTING A DISH OF BEER AROUND THE AREAS)- THEY ARE ALL EATING EACH OTHER. I LOST SO MUCH MONEY IN THE STOCK MARKET MELTDOWN - HAVE BEEN SO DEPRESSED FOR THESE PAST FEW YEARS - AND NOW I HAVE A NEW LEASE ON LIFE, TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO SURVIVE THE COMING HOLOCAUST.

LOG-ON WORD: CACOON (probably means Cocoon?) Which is appropriate since I sense I am withdrawing into a shelter of my own making.

Web bots and linquisticts

I am sure you are all aware of..

GO TO - www.urbansurvival.com Website website.

I think Levi has it listed on one of his links.

George Ure is affiliated with it, so if I'm telling you stuff you already know, forgive me. I don't subscribe/pay for it, I just signed up for their daily free newsletter. It is based on "bots", scanning the internet, news media, etc., for words that keep coming up regularly and which forecast what may/will happen in the future.

Yesterday's letter was especially appropo what we have been discussing here. A few links to the Club of Rome reports, where since 1975 they have been writing papers on "population control"!!

Levi requested we not cut and paste from other articles, so please go to the site and read this one, also he has a link to "Clinton's Global Initiative" which is currently meeting in NY!!

But I have to post this paragraph, it is as though he is channeling Levi.

"For example, I see the setting up of seed banks and such (by the ultra rich) as an insurance policy so that when they (the PTB) get done with 'blowing up the whole world for personal gain' that they and their blue-blood offspring will be able to do a 'cool restart' and automate the entire world to serve the surviving elites.
Which is why so many elites talk socialist while acting fascist.

Once they get rid of the chattel (the powers than ain't - PTA - which is you and me) they will then have an almost fully automated renewable energy powered world, where they will live a semi-Utopian existence with seed stocks going in now. A few servants will be kept, of course."

Log-on word: ABACUS (calculator)- how amazing?

Thanks for sticking to rules Eileen.
We prefer not to copy and paste original articles so we can send people to that website and give them hits besides giving you websites that could be of great interest you in the future.

They usually get ignored in preference to commercial websites who have money to advertise their attention.

Levi likes to stick up for the underdog and punch the big boys where it hurts by knowledge not money.

More sheeple...
by: Carole (UK)

At work (I work in Local Government - ok, I just ducked to avoid the flack then !!!!)... forgive me... its a wage !!!!

I was trying to have a conversation with my managers (oh so highly educated wanna beeees) about the way the weather patterns where affecting the planting and harvesting of crops, and we shouldnt be using land to keep building houses (need it to grow food - you cant eat bricks). But my comments were laughed at and jeered (I am only little admin lowlife) what do I know, I am not one of the privileged few...

My managers argument, quote "doesnt matter, we can just import it" !!!!! now who is being thick here... not me I am sure. I just told him the crops were failing in other countries because of weather extremes, we should not keep taking away our green spaces just for builders to get rich on.

Yes, life is never dull working in amongst the PTB (at a lower level), but it REALLY IS QUITE WORRYING (and I am certainly not joking).

Thanks for the interesting article. Even if only part of what you are saying is true it would be very concerning. But I think you are right about lots. So I stock up and we'll see. Does not hurt to be prepared. :)

flour and seeds
by: ChrisH(UK)

Thanks, Byron. I thought someone with a homestead-like connection might have some thoughts on this...I don't recall my parents ever storing flour in a large container, which is why I thought I'd do some asking around. Big steel cans...I have one or two ideas now.

I shall be off out on another round of foodstuffs-gathering soon from the shops....while the shelves are still heaving.

Ref the seeds germination test, yes, I agree with this; we save seeds at home ourselves and this test should work fine.

Do Your Best
by: Byron A.

Dear ChrisH,

If you want to borrow what my Grandmother taught me about flour, (she was a homesteader in the West), the best way is to keep it in a dry cool place. A lot of stores sell cheap plastic tubs for storage but you must make sure that it seals very well to prevent spoilage.

You can get mold in it if it gets wet or damp, you get weevils if there is space for them to get into it and a mouse can squeeze though a 1/4 inch crack so unless you want to share, shop carefully.
The best I found was leave the flour in it's store package then put it in an airtight container, have stored it this way for years.
We used flour that was 3 years old and the bread and tea biscuits still tasted fine. (SORRY, I just was told they were very good.)

Just remember all stored foods lose their quality over time so try to rotate.

It will also help you to get used to using your stored foods in everyday preparation.
Most dried goods can be stored in airtight containers for long periods of time if kept dry.
Why do you think that old steel cans were so popular years ago for storing things? It was because they worked and can be re-used.

Eileen,

If you are keeping seeds back remember to keep them in a cool dry place. Do not freeze them, and if you have a lot that are from fresh produce you should try a germination test once they are dry just in case you plan on relying on the seeds for food.

You soak 10 seeds then place them with a wet paper towel in a glass jar and see how many of them sprout. Ideally 9 or more will start. If less than half start don't plan on eating what you plant.

We had one whole variety of peas that barely even came up this year, One corn that nothing grew, Our potatoes were a flop, and stuff did not want to mature. And our pumpkins which we tenderly took care of from pots to the massive 20 foot patch turned out to be squash. Good thing I like them too.

And interestingly enough our tomatoes were doing great until one day after chem-trailing every plant that was in direct rain turned black and died. A neighbor has a greenhouse and he showed me the line halfway through the plants that were leaning outside. Eventually most of the plants died. No conspiracy here...

They cannot stop everybody from saving themselves but they can try to destroy our ability to help ourselves.

I wonder if the pilots have any feeling about spraying defoilants and other wonder chemicals on their own people?

Agent orange was not that long ago.
Take care thank you for the comments.

Byron A.

veggies
by: ChrisH(UK)

Have been thinking.....what is the best way to store flour long-term? Does it ever actually "go off?" Never kept a bag of flour long enough to find out.

I hope to god we dont get a ban on vegetable-growing here; it's estimated some one in three people in the UK indulge in some form of gardening. It was a lifesaver for rural folk in the wartime; and even in towns, where some gardens did exist and they were dug up for the purpose of food. Although on rations in general, I know that my parents and their neighbours all grew vegetables and fruit, some kept chickens, other neighbours were farmers with meat available....it just all worked, and provided many essentials.

Ten years ago, if someone had said that home vegetable-growing would be banned, they would have been laughed at stupid. And collecting rainwater banned. As Levi says, has he fallen into a nightmare parallel world of horrors? Sadly, no, he hasn't. We're in it already... and the sheeple are still calmly munching grass.

Deadly Harvest
by: Eileen

Byron, I agree with everything you wrote, indeed I am doing all that you recommend, although my husband thinks I'm crazy and has told me to stop buying "food"...a.k.a., the powdered soups, flour, sugar, nuts, and other preservable staples.

Also, I am drying out the seeds from all the veggies and fruit I buy. Peppers, green and red and hot, melons, watermelons, squash, even tomatoes and cucumbers..oh and also potatoes, letting them get a little old and cutting off the sprouts that grow on them. You would be amazed at how many red, yellow and regular potatoes I have grown this way ...in fact anything with a seed inside I am drying out, or figuring out a way to reuse them. Also sunflower seeds, high in energy, so we grew them this year and they were like trees.

Our garden was full of bees this year, because we have honeysuckle and jasmine growing and they love the scent. Lots of butterflies too and ladybirds and preying mantis (which we bought from a garden shop in the larvae stage (the preying mantis), and they are all over the garden. Our garden did not do well this year, due to the CA crappy weather. This is my concern, it is all well and good to grow our own food, but if the weather is not conducive to the effort, then it's a bummer.

For what it's worth, I don't think anyone who reads your superb essay's has ever thought of you as a "redneck, gun totin' kinda guy". I think you're a pretty intellectual writer - some of the best brains in my circle of friends work in the most menial jobs. Remember what Levi wrote once, that the highly educated are fools. they think if they have a Masters, or a PHd, they are superior to the rest of humanity.

The is coming when your husband will be glad you didn't listen to him. Especially when the shops are dry and he's hungry.
