Internet Censorship in Australia

by Lily de Cuir
(Australia)

Hello Everyone,

This is really important and I urge you to send this to your contacts in your own countries and abroad, asap...

Australia is just about to go ahead with internet censorship just before Christmas, when no-one is looking.

(See email below from Get Up).

We need lots of voices to change this. Don't be a sheep. Say something.

While this has to do with Australia, it's important this message goes worldwide. Australia is the test case. What happens here will happen to you whatever country you are in.

Make this go viral. Send to all your contacts. Send to alternative websites. I have.

If you feel this loss of freedom is not important to you, then delete. 'Think before you delete. Don't be a sheep.'

I've responded to Get Up's call - will you? It takes 5 minutes, no matter what country you are from. Show the Powers That Be that us sheep have grown fangs, (thanks Joe).

Read the email below and take action, please - and send it, urging others to send it viral.

Tear down the great firewall

If the link doesn't work (as it seems to happen to me all the time), then go to Get Up Australia.

I've spent the last few hours getting this message through all over the world, getting great responses from websites wanting me to join their blog and add more info. Great Stuff!

As Joe says: People Power!

Love Lily

Update on Oz Net Censorship
by: Lily

Hi All,

This is a really old post. Just had some good news in from 'Get Up Australia', saying the internet censorship in Oz is on hold.

I won't hold my breath, because as we all know they will just wait a few more years and try again.

But at least it's something to celebrate for our collective uprising. We are making a difference!

WG - I can't work out how to connect the email to this post. I will send to you separately...could you do your WG magic and add it to this post?

If so, I promise when I visit Europe, I will dance with you and make you feel REALLY embarrassed dancing with an old chick, lol...

How's that for an incentive? LMAO...

Love Lily
x

Web Guy:

Don't believe a word of it.

We still have problems with auto email for private blog mostly from OZ.

(I will have send those ones manually)

PS:

You can't trick me Lily. I'm not stupid. I'll be safe in Oz while your over here..

It gets uglier...
by: Lily

For about 6 hours, from the time I posted the previous blog, I could not get Rense, it came up with the words (in the bottom of my tray) 'RITTP403 forbidden'.

FORBIDDEN! Good lord...

The Rense site later came up and I can get it now, but this is how they do it - off an on, so you think it has to do with your computer. Until eventually you can't access the site anymore.

I fear Levi's site will go the same way.

Lily

Web Guy Note:

Regarding Lev's Site..

Already has been off and on Lily for over a year now.

They're getting ready to shut all truth sites down later this year. Then as Levi says. Micro payments next. Then you can only buy what they let you like MS Media BS for instance.

Death of the net is closing in. It's getting too dangerous for the elite because it's about freedom of speech. The last thing they want.

Time to kick out any government that plays along with this kind of communist BS and send a clear message to the next government.

Touch our internet and we will touch you back!

Uh Oh...
by: Lily

Here we go folks...

Australian Government bans Rense.com

Australian Government Bans Rense.com!

Lily

Web Guy Note:

That sucks. Even this little website disappears for a short while in Oz as you down under know.

They are listing and testing the sites they don't want for when they pull the plug.

Thank Jay Rockerfeller for the death of the internet under the excuse of Cyber Attacks

Here's hoping....
by: ChrisH(UK)

I put my 5p's worth in to your govt via the website when your original post came up; it is curious how the BBC's website has made a big play of China adding further restrictions to their Internet, but I havent seen a bean about Australia....it might be there, but not very high profile. All we're getting here is Copenhagen, Gordon the Gopher's goony multibillion pound pledges and lots of snow!

Hope your senator's mailbox blows up under the strain of all the emails he's gonna get (or has already had!).

Important Update...
by: Lily

Hi Everyone,

My letter got published on the fourwinds.com website. In addition, Get Up provided an update,
see below.

Despite 120,000 Australians protesting net censorship, Conroy has announced he will still go ahead with a mandatory ISP filter.

Some kind soul has also added Conroy's direct email address. (See below).

Please protest further and send comments to his direct email address: senator.conroy@aph.gov.au

Thanks,
Lily

Dear SD,

Stephen Conroy has just announced his Government will censor all internet traffic with a mandatory ISP-level filter.

Over 120,000 Australians have taken a stand against his flawed scheme that will do little more than divert funds away from where they're needed most, and now he plans to bring legislation before Parliament next year. Can you send him an email or fax letting him know your reaction to this announcement?

GreatFirewallOfAustralia

Senator Conroy has made this announcement in the face of overwhelming public opposition, expert industry advice, and even calls from child protection groups to drop this scheme. It will hand over control of what we can see online to an unaccountable government body - with no way to tell what they're blocking.

Senator Conroy was planning to sneak this announcement through before Christmas, hoping we wouldn't notice. We need to act quickly to make sure the Government is not let off the hook. Help us flood Senator Conroy's inbox and fax machine to make sure he understands that the weight of public opinion is against him on this issue:

www.getup.org.au/campaign

When this legislation comes before the Senate, the Government will need to negotiate to get an outcome - and that's where this movement is so well placed for impact. This campaign is far from over, and sending a clear reaction to this announcement is the best way you can keep it alive today.

Thanks for all that you do,

The Get Up team

PS - The Government's announcement needs to be met with our reaction - they're hoping to sneak the plan past us as we turn off for the holidays. Click here to tell Stephen Conroy how you feel about his plans for mandatory internet censorship.

Patrick,

If people really want to contact Mr. Conroy, use this email address:

senator.conroy@aph.gov.au

I for one am dubious about using someone's website to write to a Government Official. Go right to the source!

Cheers

Hacking/Cracking
by: Anonymous

Hi Josh, thanks for the comments. In fact something like this occurred last time the Oz government was talking about censorship. Someone hacked into the their files and brought it down for some hours. Hope they do it again to show who has the power here, us not them.

I'm not that savvy when it comes that sort of thing, I wouldn't have a clue, just ask WG, lol.

Cheers,
Lily

Geek Power

I don't know how effective it would be nowadays, but Denial of Service attacks used to be very common. Whether by an infected computer of an unknown user or on purpose. But of course you would need quite a few computers to do this. These computers would all try to access a particular server at the same time and with the server not being able to handle the load it would shut it down, basically crashing the server(s). This is just one of the many tricks to networking.

If your connected to the network there is no such thing at absolute security, only a sense of security. How hard would it be for someone to break into your house or a bank? There are different levels of security but both can be done nonetheless.
However, these things are illegal and I don't condone them. I'm sure this would never last for long.

Poeple have always found away to get their message across. It's not hard to setup your own private server. You may not be on the web as a register domain but you still exist on the NET. If your connected and have and IP Address there is no stopping you. Hackers will remove these things and the like, They already do it with everything else like unlocked phones. But in some cases there are laws in place to make these types of activities illegal as well.

Now that I have abused the word Hacker, Crackers are actually 'hackers' that do malicous actvities with the computer. Hackers are non-malicous.

Someone is blocking every link I'm sending.

Sent the link to Web Guy and sending it again now on this blog.

Tear down the great firewall

They keep changing the link addresses!

Make of that what you will.

Don't let the bastards beat us...

The link in my post doesn't work ('surprise surprise, surprise' in the voice of Gomer Pile.)

Try this one: Stephen Conroy has announced that his Government is going ahead with plans to censor internet traffic.
