National DNA Database, UK.

Over the last two weeks the British Citizen I.D cards have been available to purchase in Manchester.
I listened to a Government spokeswoman on bbc radio who explained that these I.D cards are beneficial to the public as they are a handy, credit card sized form of identification that could primarily benefit young people going to night clubs, bars, etc. No longer will these young clubbers be loosing their passports because for £30 and a copy of your fingerprints you can have a handy sized card.
The fingerprints will be stored on the National D.N.A Database. I work as a door supervisor and I have discovered a handy, credit card sized form of I.D. Most young clubbers have them. Its the driving license of course. Even youngsters that don't drive even carry a provisional license. Its a doorman's dream as it has a photo of the person, address, date of birth and a hologram to check for fakes. Also, for under a tenner youngsters can obtain proof of age cards (citizencard, portman group, etc). These cards do not require fingerprint tests either.
Now I just heard on sky news, coverage for a whole 3 seconds that explains that British Police have been randomly arresting people for DNA samples to stock up the National DNA Database.
I have left this very brief but is this storing of personal information leading somewhere for us Brits'?
